Behind the Curtain – Pastor Bruce Damon on Religious Freedom in Asia

Bruce was born and raised in Rapid City. He was sent out by his home church, Parkview Evangelical Free Church, to serve as a short-term missionary English teacher in Hong Kong, China in 1975. After teaching for two years, he studied the Cantonese language and attended the China Graduate School of Theology in Hong Kong. He graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1982. At that time he joined the Evangelical Free Church of America–International Mission (EFCA-IM) and was sent back to Hong Kong to serve as a church planter. He met his wife Mary in Hong Kong, and they were married in the United States in 1985.
Bruce and Mary continued serving together in Hong Kong until 1993. In December 1993 they were transferred by the EFCA-IM to the city of Macau, China and served there until 2019. In August 2019 Bruce and Mary retired from their missionary service and returned to settle in Rapid City.
In Hong Kong and Macau Bruce served as the church planting pastor for five churches. In Macau he was also the Field Leader for the Evangelical Free Church work there.
